01 — Build vs run

Listing charges takes an afternoon. MRR is where scripts go wrong.

Keys Your scriptA full-access sk_live_ key in a cron's env file can move money. Morning PulseA restricted rk_live_ key, Read on five resources. It can't move a cent.
Fees and refunds Your scriptSum Charge.amount and you report gross, before Stripe's fees. Morning PulseCharge balance transactions, net of Stripe fees. Refunds are not subtracted.
Pagination Your scriptList calls return 100 objects at most. Stop at page one and MRR is wrong from subscription 101. Morning PulseEvery page, through Stripe's auto-pagination.
MRR Your scriptCount a yearly plan at full price, or forget seat quantity, and MRR is off. Morning PulseEach active item: unit price × quantity, divided by its interval in months.
Numbers Your scriptAn LLM summarizing the JSON can round, swap or invent a percentage. Morning PulseArithmetic in code. No model writes a number.

02 — What's inside

Eight Stripe metrics. Plus revenue by country.

Quick setup starts with yesterday's revenue, current MRR, active customers and month revenue (the first three on Free); ARR is an option. MRR, ARR and active customers are snapshots taken each morning, so their comparisons fill in as days pass. Aggregation is how days add up when you pick a weekly or monthly KPI instead of a daily one.

Lag · yesterday, as a UTC day. Revenue by country lists yesterday's top 5 billing countries, gross. Current Month Total Revenue is month to date, net: on a daily KPI, from the 1st to yesterday; on a weekly or monthly KPI, the total on the period's last day, so a monthly KPI shows the whole month. Its only comparison is with the same day of last month. Amounts follow each currency's decimals, JPY and KWD included.

03 — How it works

Set it up once. Read it every morning.

  1. 01

    Create a restricted key

In Stripe, Developers › API keys: Read on Balance, Charges and Refunds, Customers, Events and Subscriptions.

  2. 02

    Paste it into Morning Pulse

It starts with rk_live_. Quick setup adds your Stripe KPIs.

  3. 03

    Read it at 7:00

Yesterday's Stripe numbers, every morning at 7:00 your time.

Read-only. Restricted key.

Read on five resources, nothing else.

Reads

  • Balance transactions, charges and subscriptions
  • Customers, to count active ones
  • Failed-payment events

Never

  • Creates charges, issues refunds or edits subscriptions
  • Needs a full-access secret key
  • Keeps the key after you disconnect

Official APIs, read-only access wherever the API offers it. Morning Pulse never edits your apps, orders or payments.

04 — FAQ

Stripe questions, answered straight.

What Stripe metrics are in the daily email?

The ones you pick, such as yesterday's total purchases, current MRR and ARR, active customers, new and churned subscriptions, and failed payments, each compared with the previous day, last week and last month. The email also lists yesterday's revenue for your top 5 billing countries.

Are the amounts net of fees and refunds?

Yesterday's total purchases and month revenue sum Stripe balance transactions of type charge in your account's currency, so they are net of Stripe fees; transactions in another currency are left out rather than converted. Refunds are separate balance transactions and are not subtracted. Revenue by country sums the gross amount of yesterday's successful charges in your account's currency; charges that settle in another currency are left out.

How is MRR calculated?

From every active subscription in your account's default currency: each item's unit price times its quantity, divided by its billing interval in months, so a yearly price counts for a twelfth and a weekly price about 4.33 times. Recurring coupons are subtracted; one-time coupons are not. ARR is MRR × 12. Trialing subscriptions are not active yet, so they don't count. Prices in other currencies are left out rather than converted, and metered or tiered prices aren't counted, since they have no fixed amount.

Which Stripe permissions does Morning Pulse need?

A restricted key with Read on Balance, Charges and Refunds, Customers, Events and Subscriptions. Events is only needed for failed payments. Leave everything else at None, and never paste a full-access secret key (sk_live_…).

Can Morning Pulse change anything in my Stripe account?

No. A restricted key with Read permissions can't create charges, issue refunds or edit subscriptions. Morning Pulse stores the key encrypted, and disconnecting Stripe deletes it.

How much does it cost?

Free is €0 forever: 1 app, 1 data source (Stripe can be that source), 3 KPIs and the daily email, with no card. Starter is €4/month or €40/year: 1 app, unlimited KPIs, all seven sources. Pro is €8/month or €80/year: unlimited apps, anomaly alert emails, weekly, monthly and quarterly emails, unlimited recipients, read-only team access and a morning brief on WhatsApp (paid Pro by card only, not the trial or Shopify billing; EU, India and Canada numbers). Your first Starter or Pro subscription starts with a 14-day trial, and checkout asks for a card. See pricing.

Skip the script. Read your MRR tomorrow at 7:00.
